Perspective

What we see from the above picture is actually shadows of camels on a desert.

People started talking about perspective from a long time ago, perspective is not something new, in a simple term “Bias”. Yes there is negative meaning on the term “Bias”, but when I talk about my perspective I used my point of view, thus that’s my opinion, as a result, it is a bias opinion, no matter how many evidance I put in to support my argument.

From the time we invented camera, we choose what we want to look at, what we want to capture. Then we have authorship to photos, video and books which represent the perspective of its author. Advertisers, Branding Managers and Marketers are experts of changing people’s perspectives.

Here is the example

Recently, I am researching information about a tourist’s spot, where nearly half of people are given negative comments. I found pre-occupied idea of negative perspective when I looked into each of them. It was years ago when I went Tibet myself. People went there previously did suggest bringing some change, because offerings is a common practise. Or you may bring some breads and biscuit if you prefer not to give them money.

So…you know what I found? yes, children came around whenever your car stopped, they put their little small hands in front of you and look at you. If you tell them you have no money, some of them would go away, but some will stay and happily to just taking some biscuits or breads. Money, bread or biscuits are the same, it is what you choose to believe. If you are considering offering is a ripeoff, and arguing the money you paid is going to be their monthly salary, may be you should consider going somewhere else. Or you may taking another perspective like the money is going to help families and their community to improve the living condition. Is it true? yes, it is.

Design promote humanity

A design can convince people when it works, and have paid attention to details. With a great attention of detais and empathy, design can promote humanity.

I posted Timothy Prestero’s baby incubator, he said “There’s no such thing as a dumb user. … There are only dumb products.”

The top and bottom light make sure baby can receive phototherapy if mothers put a blanket on top, unlike the traditional one, which avoided mother and baby’s connection/bonding, now, mums can touch their babies whenevern they want.

So other than functioning well, and to be convincing, the design object has to fit the details of the users, and we called it attention to details.

Q drum, a simple design, it works well in the rural part of Africa, it did not cost a hugh amount of new technology or calculation. However, we can see the detailed mind of the designer.

Details is not not just small, tiny, complicated, or high tech. Detail is understanding, is empathy. Because we understand, we design somthing with a good cause, which should help to improve not just problems, but putting humanity forward.

Why and Why Not?

Eternamente-Joven

My teacher used to tell me, no one was born to be a designer, look at other people’s examples and learn from there.
It’s true, isn’t it? Graphic design is a visual communication. Whether or not a poster, a website is able to give you a good first impression with a clear message in it that tell you if the designer has done a good job.
At the beginning of my study, I always believe I have done it well. It looks awesome to me. Look, it’s beautiful, isn’t it? But what’s that mean, it’s pretty, but what it is, and why?
A designer is not an artist, we help our client to deliver their messages to the customers. If there is no communication at all, it is a bad design.

This blog: http://www.noupe.com/inspiration/stunning-infographics-and-data-visualization.html showed some of the stunning infographic design, I just chose one of them to be this blog’s cover photo, I don’t know the language but it did tell me the motorbike has some history in the past, but classic, like the black and white movie, and no matter how old it is, we will certainly fall in love with it.

Social media

Social-Media-Icons

One of my friends she hate social media a lot, so far, she only has linkedin account, no facebook, no twitter, no pinterest.

I don’t have many, only facebook, pinterest, wordpress and of course my own website. So please feel free to add me if you like.

The reason why she hate social network is because she hate the idea of facebook which she think facebook actually breakdown communication.

Her rationale is how many friends on facebook are your friends who you will contact with, or what are you going to talk to each other when you’ve already had all the updates?

NO..no, I said, facebook help us to connect people who are living in another side of the globe. And we don’t want to miss any special moment when we are not physically there.

Also it help us to open our eyes to learn different things from different people effortlessly, particularly save you some money.

There are so many tips and technique avaliable online, and share between people who we don’t know each other on pinterest. So I can’t see why not.

However, on the other hand, privacy issue seems more complicated than 20 years ago. we have to be aware of information risk on the social media too.

I was reading an article online Managing Information Risk and Archiving Social Media, with the powerful turn over rate of tweeter. Any sensitive information are dangerous.

So..don’t make any complaint or releasing any information about work on the social media. You’ll never know the information may make you in a terrible situation in the future.

Social media is a powerful tool to test responses and check feedbacks from the public, it also help increase exposure of products or services.

Another feature of social network is its interactive nature in communcation. Nowaday, you will not have to go to school to learn new stuff, switch on youtube, and type in what you want to learn.

There are thousand of tutorials or sample demo to tell you what you need to know. And, just in case you are not sure about which button or the author speak too fast, you can give feedback or ask the author about your questions.

Communication has changed a lot over time, we need to pick up new stuff and new technology, but also pay attention to the potential risk.

Customer = Flower

Treat your customer like a flower @ iddy biddy, St Kilda. That is interesting, and I like it. So I am going to write a post on this Cafe first, rather than another five stars Fine Dining Restaurant in Sydney.

As long as  you step into this cafe you can feel “it’s interesting n fun”, they have wooden tables, and chairs. But also, a few coin game machines and sofa.

Their menu is pretty normal, but it was put in a children story book, so when you flip over the menu, story is going to start.

It is good for a group of people hanging out at night and have drinks.

The shop owner is pretty approachable to customers. She told a waitress “treat your costumers like a flower, as soon as they sit down”.

hmmm…it’s pretty straigh forward, and I can picture what a flower needs.

Sunlight, water, air and may be attention as well.

Attention to your client is the most important thing to be considered as a designer.

We talk about concept, budget, design, and other technical stuff. But how about the clients?

And what the clients really care about?? money?? Not exactly, well…depends on the brand.

No one would dare mention money at the first place but the customers, because customers bring money.

Timothy Prestero said “There’s no such thing as a dumb user. … There are only dumb products.”

Let’s start thinking who is our customers and what they need.
